Dr. Charles A. Wooding

Dr. Charles A. Wooding is responsible
for writing the original grant proposal over eighteen
years ago. He assumed the position as Director of the
Center in August 1989. He holds a law degree from the
University of New York at Buffalo and undergraduate
degree in history from Talladega College. His experiences
range from Director of the Small Business Institute
at Alabama State University, owner of the Ishkooda Super
Market in Alabama, a stint as a management trainee with
the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as well as others.
His law background has given
him expert training for teaching as he has done at three
major universities. He teaches Business Management
and Business Law courses each semester at Hampton University.
He has served on numerous Boards in the Hampton Roads
area as well as on the state and national level. Dr.
Wooding holds memberships with the National Center for
Housing Management, the Virginia Incubation Board, and
the Hampton Community Development Corporation. He served
the university as developer of the Hampton Harbor Business
complex and continues that association as manager of
that residential/ retail complex.
His vision and leadership has
enabled HUBAC to create the following related entities;
Hampton University Rural Business Assistance Center
(HURBAC); Hampton Community Development Corporation
(HCDC); Hampton University Business Incubator; The Hampton
University Rural Revolving Loan Program, and the First
Friday Business Network.

Mr. James A. Peterson

|
James A. Peterson holds a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business Management form Hampton University.
While an undergraduate student, he and his partner won
2nd place in the Business Plan Competition
held annually by the University’s Center for Entrepreneurial
Studies. His experience includes one year with retail
giant, Circuit City. Mr. Peterson is responsible for
coordinating the community affairs division of the Center,
including economic development, and assisting clients.

Norma B. Harvey

Norma B. Harvey has been employed part-time
by the Center since it opened its doors in November
1982. She holds a B.S. and Masters degree in Education.
Since 1974, her background has been in the areas of
conference coordination, research and business development
planning. Mrs. Harvey serves the Center as coordinator
of seminars and workshops and targets our business clients
on start-up preparation and business plan development.
She has been honored on the Peninsula, as well as the
State of Virginia for the minority business advocate
award. She was honored by the Virginia Council on the
status of women for their Corporate Achievement Award.

Darlene M. Lee

Darlene M. Lee received a B.S. degree
in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University in
1982. She has held the position of Administrative Assistant/
Business Counselor at the Center since April 1999.
Ms. Lee brings over twelve years business related experience
to HUBAC. She owned and operated a Retail Book Store
and Novelty Shop, Founded and Directed the Children’s
Festival Marketing Co. in Hampton, Virginia, a Regional
Manager for R. N Koch Inc. (a costume jewelry distributor)
that serviced approximately 1,800 Wal-Mart, Kmart, and
other variety stores and has held countless other positions
in retail management and sales. She has served on numerous
Boards of Directors, the Hampton Community Development
Corporation, and Leadership Development Caucus/Economic
Focus and volunteered for community organizations including
the Hampton Roads Sickle Cell Festival Event.
