  About the College of Continuing Education

Professional and career education and training for students over the age of twenty-one is the primary focus of the Division of Continuing Studies at Hampton University. The Division of Continuing Studies (CS) offers students a variety of academic degree programs to choose from: associate, baccalaureate, and post-master certificate programs . Courses are offered year round on an accelerated (nine week) session basis which enables students already involved with careers or families to complete degree requirements more quickly. Degree program curricula offered by the Division of Continuing Studies allows for the acceptance of previous college credit and career and military credit as well. Students with a variety of previous college, career, and/or military credits are often able to complete undergraduate requirements in fewer than four years.

The Division of Continuing Studies can assist students with non-degree career preparation as well through enrollment in certificate programs which prepare individuals for immediate employment in several key industries such as paralegal studies, and hotel/restaurant management. The College also offers specialty courses in post-graduate nursing, computer science, and nuclear engineering technology to satisfy the training needs of workforce groups within the Hampton Roads area.

The Division of Continuing Studies offers degree and certificate program courses at the following locations:

  • Hampton Harbor complex adjacent to the main campus of Hampton University, at Hampton, Virginia
  • Langley Air Force Base, Hampton Virginia
  • Roanoke Higher Education Center
  • Aeroscience Center at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport in Newport News, Virginia.

The Division of Continuing Studies offers five nine week academic sessions throughout the year. Academic sessions are held during the following periods: August - October; October - December; January - March; March - May; and May - July. Students enjoy a winter break before classes resume in January.

 

History of the Division of Continuing Studies

In 1984 the Division of Continuing Education became the College of Continuing Education at Hampton University with its own dean, faculty, and staff. It assumed its present location adjacent to the main campus of Hampton University to facilitate its access to adult degree-seekers. As the College's reputation for serving the education and training needs of adult learners grew, its student body increased proportionately.
