Graduate Programs in Education
The Graduate College at Hampton University offers a fifth-year initial teacher licensure program in which students earn a Master’s in Teaching or Master's of Arts degree. Students interested in teaching at the elementary (pK-6), middle school (6-8), and secondary levels (7-12) may choose a major in one of the areas listed below:

Early Childhood/Elementary — Grades pK-6
English, *Psychology, Mathematics, Marine Science, Biology and Social Studies

Secondary — Grades 7-12
English, Mathematics, Music

Master of Arts
Montessori Education, Gifted Education, Educational Leadership

Admissions
Students must hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the majors listed above. Admission requirements include, but are not limited to: 2.5 GPA

and

Successful completion of the general test of the GRE and three letters of recommendation (one from the undergraduate department chair) and other required standardized tests.

Students completing bachelor's degrees from other universities may also apply for admission to the Graduate Program in Education.These students may be required to enroll in prerequisite courses to meet the Virginia Department of Education requirements.class2

Students may also be invited to an on-campus interview.

Application

Students must submit a 2-3 page typed essay with their application, on the topic, "Why I Want to Become a Teacher."
