College of Continuing Education
  Non-Credit Programs

 

The College of Continuing Education offers non-credit courses for personal enrichment online and in the classroom. Non-credit courses cannot be used as a substitute for academic credit or applied towards a degree program.

"One Continuing Education C.E.U. is ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction." Partial C.E.U.'s may be awarded utilizing the decimal nature of the system of measurement, i.e., 3.5 C.E.U.'s may be awarded for 35 hours of continuing education activities.

There are currently two online non-Credit certificates offered in Entrepreneurship and Non-Profit Leadership and Management. 

Brown Bag lunchtime courses are also offered in the classroom weekdays from 12 noon - 1 p.m. 

 

In cooperation with the Virginia Beach Health Department, the College of Continuing Education is offering courses in Food Service Manager Certification, Food Service Manager Recertification, and Chinese in the English Language.

 

Non-Profit Leadership & Management

This online program is designed to equip students with the skills required to start, build and manage faith-based community outreach, government, not-for-profit, and non-profit organizations. Certificate includes the following six courses: 1) Strategic Planning-The Power of the Vision, (2) Resource Development-Fundraising & Beyond, (3) Human Resource Development in Non-Profit Organizations, (4) Outcome Measurement-Are you making a Difference?, (5) Budgets and Financial Controls, and (6) Grant Writing. Each course is 5 weeks long, 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), or 9 CEUs for entire certificate. Cost: $600 for entire certificate or $125 for individual courses.

 

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

This online program is designed to equip students with the skills required to start, build and manage successful enterprises. This six-week certificate includes six modules: (1) The Beginning Entrepreneur: Avoiding The Pitfalls / Decision Time, (2) Researching the Product / Selecting the Employees, (3) Profile: An Effective Entrepreneur, (4) Starting the Business, (5) Preparing the Business Plan, and (6) Integrating Technology into a Small Business / Creating an Ethical Business Environment. 6 CEUs for entire certificate. Cost: $425 for certificate
