This seminar will examine the plight of juveniles and the Justice System. Participants will explore the system's response to juvenile crime (serious offenses which will include the juvenile sex offender) as well as theories and/or causations of juvenile delinquency.

Heritage and Vision: Talking with the Elders

Dr. Taylor

This seminar will afford students the opportunity to learn wisdom of the elders while gaining valuable research and interviewing skills in the process. As a part of the National Visionary Heritage Fellows program, the seminar will facilitate an ongoing intergenerational dialogue that fosters the crucial exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge between elders and young people.

You and the World

This seminar will use the deliberative forum format to explore democracy through experience. Through actual involvement in the deliberative process, students will learn the fundamental skills necessary for being effective citizens: reflecting together on the merits of different policy choices, listening well to other voices, understanding the underlying values that animate a particular view, and finding common ground with those who disagree with us.

This seminar will expose students to opera and the various facets that comprise an operatic production. It will also focus on major artists to include the contributions of African American artists, conductors, and composers. Students will have the opportunity to attend performances as well as to participate in a workshop activity.

Mothers tell daughters many things, but there are a few lessons daughters learn on their own. The participants in this seminar will explore physical, social and emotional changes that are encountered as one becomes an adult woman and identify ways to cope with the transition.

The personal statement is a very important part of the application to graduate or professional schools, for internships and jobs and for some organizations, such as sororities and fraternities. In this seminar, students will study and practice how to effectively sell themselves through the personal statement.
