Eating for a Healthy You

In this seminar students will investigate the impact of dietary choices on their own health and well being as well as that of the environment. Some topics that will be addressed are obesity and diabetes epidemics in the African American community, the role of fast-food in the American diet, alternative ways of eating for health and environmental sustainability, the link between poverty and malnutrition.

In this seminar, students will take a cross disciplinary approach towards addressing a variety of topics using logic, persuasion, argumentation, and debate. The intent is for students to practice the art of presenting a solid case with sound arguments.

This seminar will expose students to opera and the various facets that comprise an operatic production. It will also focus on major artists to include the contributions of African American artists, conductors, and composers. Students will have the opportunity to attend performances as well as to participate in a workshop activity.
