This seminar will afford students the opportunity to learn wisdom of the elders while gaining valuable research and interviewing skills in the process. As a part of the National Visionary Heritage Fellows program, the seminar will facilitate an ongoing intergenerational dialogue that fosters the crucial exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge between elders and young people.

This seminar will use the deliberative forum format to explore demorcracy through experience. Through actual involvement in the deliberative process, students will learn the fundamental skills neccessary for being effective citizens: reflecting together on the merits of different policy choices, listening well to other voices, understanding the underlying values that animate a particular view, and finding common ground with those who disagree with us.

This seminar will explore famous African Americans in health and medicine, focusing on those engaged in cancer research, cancer prevention and education, and cancer as a political issue. The American Cancer Society's HBCU Project to engage African American young adults and address

cancer disparities will be highlighted.

The personal statement is a very important part of the application to graduate or professional schools, for internships and jobs and for some organizations, such as sororities and fraternities. In this seminar, students will study and practice how to effectively sell themselves through the personal statement.

This seminar will examine the execution of U.S. foreign policy through the U.S. Department of State, other government agencies, and our embassies. Participants will discuss current directions in our diplomacy under goals of Transformational Diplomacy, investigate the goals and tools of Public Diplmacy, and study some forms of Citizen Deplomacy in America's outreach to the world.
