The Department of English enrolls
approximately 150 majors. It has been cited by Black Issues
in Higher Education as one of the foremost producers of African-American
English graduates in the world.
Approximately one-third of the Department’s
graduates attend graduate or law school. Other former students accept
positions in government, industry, finance, and education.
The English Education
major is accredited by The National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE). Our English Education graduates
are recruited by the most selective school districts in the
country.

Scholarship and Financial Assistance
Scholarships are awarded to qualifying
students through the University Scholarship Program and other
scholarship programs. These include Presidential Scholars, Academic
Achievers, Army and Navy ROTC, and various departmental scholarships.
