Jacqueline Fonvielle Bontemps is an Associate Professor of
Art and Humanities in the Division of Arts and Humanities where she teaches
Advanced Art History and Special Projects in the Department of Fine and
Performing Arts. Dr. Bontemps holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio
Art and a Masters of
Education degree from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. She is the first
African American female to receive a Doctorate of Education from Illinois State
University, Normal, Il. She has been active in research and organizing
important exhibitions of African American art. Dr. Bontemps continues to be
recognized in numerous publications, resource books, and textbooks for her
scholarship in the field of art by African American Women. She remains
active as an exhibiting visual artist and is consistently invited to jury local,
regional and national exhibitions.
