After receiving a degree in biological psychology at the University of Washington (the second woman to be awarded the Ph. D. degree in biological psychology at U. W.), I began teaching at Hampton University. For over 30 years I have enjoyed working with the students at Hampton University and have dedicated my career to helping them get a solid education. I know from experience, both mine and that of past Hampton graduates, that having to work hard and to meet challenges are the best way to become prepared to meet the competition you will face as you pursue your own career. My current research interests are in several related areas: the emotional, cognitive and behavioral effects of becoming a victim of a crime, attitudes toward crime victims, and the psychological effects of terrorism. I am also director of the Career Opportunities in Research (COR) Scholars Program funded by NIMH. My husband is a psychology professor at Old Dominion University who teaches courses in biological psychology and in drugs and behavior. My son is in the Ph. D. program in engineering design at Georgia Tech. I like to travel and learn about the cultures of other countries. My church is very important to me and provides both a spiritual home and a community. |
