Research initiatives in the School of Nursing at Hampton University have been funded by several mechanisms. The overall aim of research is to extend science about families by developing and refining research methodologies that explore issues and concerns affecting families in the milieu in which they live. As faculty and students continue to study the bio-psycho-cultural-political-spiritual components of racial and ethnic minorities and vulnerable groups suffering from disparities affecting their lives, family and family-related research is undertaken within communities through a myriad of partnerships and collaborations within and external to “our home by the sea.” The outcomes of initiatives are shared through a dissemination model developed by the school and dissemination is reflected in each initiative as an outcome objective.
Our present research initiatives are as follows:
Hampton-Penn Center to Reduce Health Disparities
This proposal seeks to narrow the gap in health disparities that currently exist between American citizens of ethnic and racial origins by capitalizing on extending an existing partnership between the Hampton University School of Nursing and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
HU Providing {Healthy} Options With Empowering Resources (HU POWER)
The purposes of this Healthy Communities Access Program (HCAP) Demonstration Project are to develop a patient-based research infrastructure, establish joint and collaborative programs of medical research and data collection and support the research-related costs of patient care, data collection, and academic training.
Hampton University Health Disparities Reduction Project
Hampton University Health Disparities Reduction Project seeks to develop a program for Heath Disparities reduction.
