Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing provides leadership and scholarship in nursing practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. We support the learning and professional development of our members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.

Delta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau

The Hampton University Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society was chartered Delta Iota Chapter March 27, 1980. The Honor Society was organized to:

  1. Recognize superior scholastic achievement and leadership qualities
  2. Foster high professional standards
  3. Encourage creative work
  4. Strengthen commitment to the ideals of the profession of nursing.
Membership consists of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and community leaders. Membership is based on superior scholastic achievement, evidence of professional potential, marked achievement in the filed of nursing, and peer evaluations.

Students enrolled in Hampton University's School of Nursing who have completed at least one-half of the required curriculum for the baccalaureate or graduate nursing program may be considered eligible for membership if they have a 3.00 cumulative nursing average. Selected graduate nurses with a baccalaureate or higher degree are also eligible for membership within national guidelines for leadership and creativity.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. is a professional association for registered professional nurses and student nurses (male and female) representing many cultures and diverse ethnic backgrounds. More than 8000 Registered Nurses and Student Nurses hold membership in Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc.

There are over 78 graduate chapters and 38 undergraduate chapters located in 26 states, District of Columbia, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, and Monrovia Liberia, West Africa. Membership is by invitation and is both active and honorary.

The Hampton University Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. was chartered Tau Beta Chapter May 1, 1976.

The NSNA Mission is to: organize, represent and mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses, as well as those enrolled in baccalaureate completion programs; convey the standards and ethics of the nursing profession; promote development of the skills that students will need as responsible and accountable members of the nursing profession; advocate for high quality health care; advocate for and contribute to advances in nursing education; and develop nursing students who are prepared to lead the profession in the future .
