Welcome
Hampton University's Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (APS) offers courses and research experience for the next generation of scientists; to extend our understanding of Earth and other worlds, and provide scientific leadership for the future.
During the next several decades at least, environmental issues will present some of the greatest of challenges for the U.S. and the world. A robust and diverse community of scientists will be essential to provide informed insight for decisions affecting generations to come. Training students to become part of that community is integral to our mission.
Research activity and expertise are major strengths of the department and its associated Center for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS), providing students with exceptional opportunities to participate at the forefront of science. CAS hosts an array of projects funded by NASA, NOAA, the NSF, and other agencies, and maintains partnerships with other universities, laboratories, and industry, both domestically and internationally. All of our faculty are engaged in research, and the ratio of faculty to graduate students is high.
Please peruse this web site for more information, and know that we truly welcome inquiries from students and others interested in our programs. The Hampton University campus is an attractive and comfortable setting for students and faculty. It maintains an air of friendliness and collegiality fostering intellectual development and achievement, and we invite prospective students to contact us and arrange for a visit.
