Student Accomplishments
Six Chemistry majors graduated in May, 2000. One of the
chemistry graduates, Ms. Vanessa J. Walker, was the
year's valedictorian and President's Cup recipient.
This year's grauating chemistry majors included Khadja
Dugan, Jamilah Green, Meghan Jackson, Yolanda Phillips and
Danille Ward. Jamilah Green will be attending Purdue
University and Danielle Ward will be attending Gallaudet
University.
Several graduate students have completed or nearly completed
their studies at HU. They include Nixon Mwebi, Kefa Onchoke,
Samuel Simpson and Putuma Gqamana.
Gina Newsome, a senior, was named Miss Hampton University
2000-2001. The Department of Chemistry wishes to congratulate
her.

Accomplishments
Dr. Willie Darby was awarded the Edward L. Hamm,
Sr. Distinquished Teaching Award at Commencement 2000.
Dr. Edmund Ndip and Dr. Joseph Williams have
been promoted to Associate Professor.
Dr. Isai T. Urasa has been named a Science Scholar
in the American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS) Science Scholars in Higher Education for International
Development Program. Dr. Urasa will spend the year working
on projects in one of the bureaus of the U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID) in Washington, D.C.
