Student Accomplishments

Congratulations to the class of 2004!

Tomika Bethea was this year’s recipient of the ACS Local Chapter Award. She will pursue Ph.D. work in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Arizona

Jason Neal will be attending Harvard University for the Ph.D. program in Neural Sciences

Chenere Ramsey received the Departmental Honors Award. She will be attending University of Pennsylvania Ph.D program for studies in Neural Sciences

Shanina Saunders will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill for the Ph.D program in Organic Chemistry

Faculty News and Accomplishments

As some of you may know by now, Dr. Nandita Banerjee retired at the end of the Spring semester 2004. A reception was held in her honor on May 5th, 2004 at the Student Center. Thanks to all who sent expressions, which were shared at her reception. You can still send expressions to her attention here at the Department of Chemistry.

As the emcee, Dr. Darby was both entertaining and sentimental.

Dr. Mark Davis, Class of 1992 and current

HU faculty member, expressed his gratitude.

Dr. Carla Oldham, Class of 1992, returned

to campus to attend Dr. Banerjee’s reception.

Dr. Patrick Hines, Class of 1996, also

returned to campus to express his gratitude

Mrs. Tamice Jones, who now attends

Eastern Virginia Medical School,

spoke about how Dr. Banerjee always

encouraged her to pursue Medical School

Dr. Urasa presented Dr. Nandita Banerjee with her retirement gift.

Aneal Kimaro returned to Hampton to present a seminar “Molecularly Imprinted Polymer and Fluorescent Polymer:  Application in Ion-Exchange Resins, Membranes and Sensors”.
