Student Accomplishments
Six Chemistry majors graduated in May, 1999. One of the
chemistry graduates, Ms. Aliya Courtney, was the
year's valedictorian, graduating with a GPA of 4.004. Ms.
Courtney was also the recipient of the 1999 President's
Cup.
Angelina Baron, a graduating chemistry major, was
accepted for Ph.D. in Chemistry at the following institutions:
Duke, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, University
of Virginia, and Wake Forest. She will attend Duke
University.
Aliya Courtney was given the Outstanding Senior
Award from the Department. She received $100,000
from the Packard Educational Program to be used for support
of graduate education. She also received $14,000 from the
Ford Foundation to support graduate education. Ms. Courtney
was accepted for Ph.D. work at Harvard, Columbia, Johns
Hopkins,Cornell, NYU and the University of California at
San Francisco. She will attend Johns Hopkins to Pursue
a Ph.D.program in Toxicology/Pharmacology.
Regina Easley was accepted for Ph.D. work with full
financial support at the following institutions: Yale,
UNC, Duke, Emory, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia
and Georgia Tech. She will attend UCLA.
April Foust was accepted at Virginia Commonwealth
University to pursue a graduate degree in pharmacology.
Katherine Kane was accepted at the South West Medical
Center in Texas.
Eric Handy, HU
class of 1994, has received his doctorate from MIT.
Monica Handford, HU class of 1988, has
recieved her doctorate from the University of Maryland.
