Dear Future Freshman:

I am writing to make you aware of the advantages of majoring in the fields of Computer Science (CSC) or Computer Information Systems (CIS).  Despite what you may have heard there are many opportunities for graduates with a CSC or CIS degree.  There was a slump in the economy which resulted in fewer opportunities but the past two years have seen the demand for our majors outstrip availability.  Companies representing the full spectrum of American Enterprise are seeking outstanding CSC/CIS graduates.  Computer Science and Computer Information Systems is the third highest demanded major in the country.

The Department of Computer Science has a well-rounded, highly competitive program that will prepare you for both graduate school and positions in government or industry.  We are currently starting new initiatives in the areas of Information Assurance and Artificial Intelligence. We have strong collegiate partnerships (such as Carnegie Mellon University, Idaho State University, James Madison University, University of North Carolina-Charlotte, North Carolina State University, Old Dominion University, and The National Defense University) as well as strong corporate partnerships (such as IBM, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Allstate, Vanguard, and Northrop-Grumman).  Most of our majors take advantage of the many available summer internships and find employment positions before graduation.

The Department of Computer Science at Hampton University will offer you an exciting and challenging environment should you choose to join the Hampton University family. You are welcome to visit our facilities whenever you are in Hampton Roads area.  Please learn more about the Department of Computer Science by visiting the following website:
