Some faculty awards and honors include:

• Five faculty members have received Hampton University Distinguished Teaching Awards.
• One faculty member was elected Fellow of American Statistical Association and recognized in 1997 by National Technical Association as one of the Top 50 Minority Women in Science and Engineering.
• Two faculty members are Endowed University Professors of Mathematics (2000-2003).
• William C. Lowry Outstanding Teacher at College Level (VA Council of Teachers of Mathematics 2001).
• Quality Education for Minorities Mathematics, Science and Engineering Network Excellence in Mathematics/Science Teaching Award (2001).

Many faculty members in the department have received research grants and contract awards from federal agencies, such as:

• The Department of Energy
• NASA
• The U.S. Air Force
• The U.S. Army
• The U.S. Navy

During the past several years, the Department of Mathematics has received over a million dollars of awards to support student and faculty research. Numerous research papers have been published in journals, conference proceedings, and presented at professional conferences. The Center for Fusion Research and Training has been established under a million-dollar grant from the Department of Energy.
