Hampton University Physics & the National Science Foundation Invite Applications for UnIPhy-REU
Undergraduate Institute in Physics Research Experiences for Undergraduates

The Department of Physics at Hampton University will provide research opportunities in nuclear, particle, optical, and medical physics and in atmospheric sciences to selected undergraduates. All participants will experience hands-on research with faculty in one of the five state-of-the-art research centers at Hampton University or at the nearby Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Joint tours, talks, and activities are planned with the College of William & Mary REU group.
Preference will be given to students who are US citizens or permanent residents who are completing the sophomore or junior year. Qualified students who have completed their freshman year will be considered. For the eight weeks of participation, students will receive a stipend of $4,000, housing on campus, and support for meals. Students will be reimbursed for the cost of travel up to $300.
To be considered for the program:
- Complete and submit the application
- Have two faculty members or research mentors forward letters of recommendation to the address below
- Request a transcript of all college courses be mailed to the address below
- Write a short letter explaining your research interests and telling us a little bit about you.
