MME 243 Broadcast Reporting and Newswriting              Lab                 3 Credit Hours

     This class refines newswriting skills for broadcast. It introduces broadcast journalism majors to basic beat and public affairs reporting, such as police, fire, city council and courts. Students will learn to write and produce their stories for radio newscasts.
Required of all broadcast journalism majors.

Prerequisites: MME 201 and 202.

MME 300 Persuasion and Propaganda                                      Lecture       3 Credit Hours

     This course studies persuasive communication as found in the media. It analyzes the role of the mass media in the creation and use of public opinion and propaganda. It will emphasize the use and abuse of persuasive communication.
Required of all public relations and advertising majors.

Prerequisites: MME 201 or permission of the instructor.

MME 307 Media Management                                                         Lecture       3 Credit Hours

     This course surveys the ownership, structures and organization of different forms of media. It introduces students to the basic demands on and dilemmas of media managers. It includes practical solutions to typical problems in managing a media business.

Prerequisites: MME 201 and 202 or permission of the instructor.

MME 308 Online Journalism                                                          Lab                  3 Credit Hours

     This course introduces students to the emerging field of online journalism. It teaches basic Web design and the use of text, graphics, video and audio on the Web. It examines the pressures, pitfalls and advantages of online reporting. It stresses sound journalistic news values and judgment for reporting responsibly in the new world of online journalism.
Required of all print and broadcast journalism majors.

Prerequisites: MME 201 and 202.


MME 311 Contemporary Editing                                                   Lab                  3 Credit Hours

     This courses teaches the skills and theoretical concepts demanded by 21st century news coverage and technology. It includes copy editing on computer, pagination, page layout and design, and techniques for coaching and working with writers to develop story ideas. It stresses an editor's responsibility to assure balanced, thorough and accurate coverage of a multicultural society.
Required of all print journalism majors.
