Rasan M. Holmes, BA., MT.

Graduated from Hampton University after having completed the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in performance with Departmental Honors and cum Laude. While a student in this program, he was selected to present an Honors Recital on the trombone based on his performance skills and high overall grade point average. Immediately following the completion of the bachelor's degree, Mr. Holmes began study in Hampton University's Master in Teaching program in which he achieved a grade point average of 4.1. Again, he excelled academically and successfully completed the Master's degree. He was pursued immediately by the public school system and accepted a teaching position at a middle school in Chesapeake, VA.

Shortly after taking this position, he was asked to take the position of Instructor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands. As a student at Hampton he had served as a graduate assistant for the University Band and exhibited exceptional qualities, talents and skills necessary for one serving as a musician and band administrator. Furthermore, he exhibited excellent as well as effective teaching skills.

His professional memberships include Music Educator's National Conference where he served as Collegiate Chapter President, Hampton University; Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity where he served as Phi Beta Chapter President.

Awards received by Mr. Holmes include the 2000 MENC Professional Achievement Award and the 1998 Hampton University Honors Council Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Department of Music.

As a Department of Music faculty member, his teaching responsibilities include courses in arranging, computer literacy the musicians, applied trombone, and band.
