The Hampton University Center of Public Policy and Leadership sprang from the vision of the President, Dr. William R. Harvey. As President of Hampton University, Dr. Harvey believed a powerful measure of any great university is its capacity to make its research relevant to real-world problems. He wanted Hampton University to become home to a center that no other Historically Black University houses.

He knew that the leadership in this center had to be strong in order for it to fulfill its mission and purpose. Former United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Alphonso Jackson was tasked to lead this initiative in August 2008. Mr. Jackson, a nationally known policy expert with a sharp, analytical mind, possesses the acumen and expertise to transform ideas into policies as the head of the center in its infancy stage.

The Center for Public Policy and Leadership invites national and international dignitaries to speak on how Public Policy relates not only to the United States, but also to the rest of the world.

Nearly two years later, our public policy center continues to grow in remarkable ways.
