Andrea W. Lawrence is Chairperson of Computer Science at Spelman College where she has been a faculty member for several years. Her area of interest is Human Computer Interaction, but she is currently exploring topics in Information Assurance. Her research focuses on using visualization and animation in teaching computer science. She has also worked with using the Internet to enhance learning and collaborative work. She works actively to increase the number of minority students who pursue computing graduate degrees. Dr. Lawrence holds the Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech where she was the first African American to obtain that degree. Dr. Lawrence is a long-time member and current President of ADMI (Association of Departments of Computer Science/Engineering in Minority Institutions) and a member of CDC (Coalition to Diversity Computing).

Abstract: Information Assurance has increasing importance for computer science departments as we prepare students for the work force in this age of ever-growing need for security measures.
Small colleges face challenges in developing curriculum, laboratories, and programs in this area. There are possibilities and resources—this is the story of some of those resources.
