Information Security Begins With You

Abstract: Information security is the protection of data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, destruction, modification, and/or disruption. This field of study has been around as long as generals have fought wars, beginning with commanders protecting information about their military capabilities, outlets, troop numbers, and movements. However, over recent years, the information security field has become overwhelmingly popular throughout all industries with the increasing use of technology and consumer tracking mechanisms. The recent surge of identity theft and the threat of cyber terrorism have encouraged many technology professionals to become information security professionals. The purpose of this talk will be to introduce the audience to the field of information security and discuss ways that HBCU’s can prepare students to be leaders across multiple industries.
