Description
The applicant will be under the direction of the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. The applicant will provide laboratory, network and personal computer support for all engineering and Office of the Dean faculty, staff, and students, and provide administration for research computers. The System Administrator stays abreast of current information technology, and does research as necessary to troubleshoot computer or network problems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain local area network: Install, upgrade, and maintain hardware, software, and operating systems; diagnose and resolve network, hardware, and software problems; maintain information backup systems and processes; evaluate hardware and software requirements and make recommendations to Dean.
- Provide PC and workstation computer support to faculty and staff: software and hardware installations; assist users in troubleshooting software and hardware problems related to passwords, security, email printing, operating systems, applications, and any other problems. This will include working with central University information systems.
- Oversee and coordinate voice communications to include: coordinating with HU Telecommunications to install and repair phone lines, coordinate set-up of voice mail, long distance, and other telecommunication services.
- Maintain product and warranty records for all computer and laboratory equipment, ensure that all equipment is property tagged, and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies. Maintain inventory of all software.
- Assist faculty and Dean in maintaining computers, other equipment, and software in the engineering laboratories.
- Other tasks as assigned or necessary. Exercise personal initiative to identify other tasks that are needed to effectively carry out responsibilities.
Requirements
Knowledge, experience, and proficiency with Windows, MacOS and UNIX systems. Must be able to perform PC technician duties, and desktop support to include support of Microsoft Office.
Candidate must demonstrate appropriate mix of experience, training, certifications, and/or education to qualify for position.
Qualifications
The System Administrator must have excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, be able to work independently, and have a customer service work ethic.
