Hampton University, a co-educational institution of higher education in Hampton, Virginia, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Information.  This is a full-time, 12-month, salaried staff position which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary sports information contact for women's sports and men's tennis in addition to serving as the secondary contact for football;
• Write news releases and game notes for assigned sports;
• Tabulate and maintain individual and team statistics;
• Plan and coordinate media interviews with student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff members;
• Design, write and edit game programs, media guides and other athletics publications;
• Assist with maintaining, developing and coordinating the athletics website.

Requirements

• A minimum of a bachelor's degree along with two-to-five years experience in college sports information, media relations, public relations or journalism.

Qualifications

• Great organizational skills;
• Ability to communicate effectively;
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines;
• General knowledge of the University and its intercollegiate athletics program;
• Basic knowledge of the terminology and statistics associated with college sports;
• Practical knowledge of desktop publishing (PC platform preferred);
• Knowledge of Stat Crew statistical software.
