Description
The Network Technician analyzes computer and network-related problems reported by end-users, diagnoses the most effective method to resolve the problem and implements the solution; installs, maintains, and troubleshoots the university's Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), data communications, microcomputers and all peripheral equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for Installation, Maintenance, Support, Trouble Resolution, and Root Cause Analysis for a mid/large, enterprise wide LAN/WLAN/WAN environment with a focus on Wireless LAN. In addition to daily Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliance and routine break-fix duties, this position will provide architecture design and guidance for the Wireless LAN. Will develop and manage small to large projects to enhance & expand the network, including cost analysis, detailed design, project planning, implementation, detailed documentation and cross-training of peers. The selected individual must demonstrate excellent customer service & team building skills and will be required to routinely interact directly customers and to participate in a team environment. This individual will frequently be called upon to diagnose difficult network performance problems and interact with application support teams to diagnose network / application performance issues.
Requirements
- A minimum of an Associates Degree,equivalent related work experience, or accredited technical certificate in information technology;
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in information systems or related field and three to five years related experience and/or training in computer networking including CICS, NCP, VTAM, LANS and understanding of cabling, both copper and optical fiber; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- 3-4 years minimum of related experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated, in-depth, LAN/WLAN/WAN support & engineering experience (5+ years);
- Must have experience and/or certification(s) for Aruba Wireless Networks;
- Superior knowledge, skills, and experience with Microsoft Server environment as well as Linux operating system;
- Superior knowledge, skills, and experience with Air Wave Enterprise solutions;
- Experience in supporting large, complex LAN/WLAN/WAN networks in a large, enterprise environment;
- Superior knowledge, skills, & experience with Cisco routing and switching Infrastructure in a multi-Protocol environment;
- Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, electrical, UPS, etc.;
- In-depth experience and talent in using packet / protocol analyzers to identify and remedy application and network performance issues;
- Positive, proactive, can do attitude with the ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead when required, and as a participant in a team environment;
- Willingness to participate in rotating schedules and share on-call duties;
- Ability to respond to on-call / on-site situations within required SLA parameters.
