Description

The Assistant Director of the Physical Plant plans coordinates and directs the operations of maintenance and repair of campus buildings, utilities building equipment(exclusive of heating and air conditioning equipment), and other facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include the administrative and managerial function of planning and controlling, all work executed by the craft; developing means of reducing operating cost without impairment of operations, preparing justification for major expenditures for equipment, buildings materials, and supplies scheduling and setting priorities for work to be accomplished; justifying and recommending budget allocations, and supervising personnel in the craft shop. In addition, acts in the role of the director during his absence.

Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction, Engineering or allied field, for example mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. Candidate should have been enrolled in elementary business courses, business law.

Qualifications
Minimum five years of managerial, administrative, and/or supervisory experience at a college or similar institution, with at least two years in physical plant operations, or an equivalent amount of experience in a private agency or industry. Must have a comprehensive understanding of the principles of mechanical and electrical systems; general knowledge of painting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and their adaptability to maintenance programs; must have the ability to effectively plan organize and direct the work activities of a diverse work force in order to accomplish a variety of complex and simplex tasks; to act decisively in the case of emergencies and the ability to speak and write effectively. Candidates must have an even temperament and the ability to relate to persons in all stages of academic development.
