The Hampton University Department of Architecture invites nominations and applications for two full-time faculty positions to teach design studio and major support courses at the assistant/associate professor rank beginning Fall 2009.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Tidewater Peninsula in Hampton, Virginia. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Architecture is housed within the School of Engineering and Technology and has 165 students and 8 full-time faculty, as well as adjunct faculty from the Hampton Roads area. The architecture program at Hampton has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1870, and the program recently celebrated its 65th anniversary as a fully-developed architecture curriculum. The 5 ½ year degree program leads to the Master of Architecture first professional degree, and is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. Faculty members currently hold positions of national leadership in architectural education. The principal focus of the Department's mission is leadership in the architectural profession and in community design. Initiatives are being developed in sustainability, historic preservation, and modeling and simulation.The Department is committed to the creative integration of digital technology within the design courses, as well as in other areas of the curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to teach design studios and a specialized course in the area of architecture history, theory, architecture engineering, environmental technology, or in an additional related area. Candidates should have the ability to creatively integrate digital technology with design courses as well as have the potential for creative achievement in a specific area of research and/or practice.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a Master of Architecture or equivalent professional degrees and professional or academic experience in the design, history, and technology areas. The ability to become registered is required; registration and/or doctoral degree is desirable. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in design studio teaching and demonstrate expertise in the teaching of one or more of the following areas: history, community and urban design, environmental technology, and structure technology. Additional teaching areas consistent with our degree program and community design mission are also sought.
