The Hampton University University College invites nominations and applications for the position Director of Hampton U Online beginning November 15, 2019.


Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  Hampton U Online offers students the freedom to study online anytime to earn a certificate,
Undergraduate or Graduate degree in HU's ever-expanding range of degree program offerings to include online Military learning. While learning online, students are able to take advantage of our comprehensive student support services, offering real help from real people. Students will also find that our online student resources set us apart from other online colleges in Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees Hampton U Online in all aspects and is responsible for strategic planning, administration and leadership of the unit.
  • Oversees online, and web enhanced course development.
  • Evaluates online course development and instruction.
  • Maintains agreements and provides oversight over all providers/vendors.
  • Coordinates with Chairs and Academic Coordinators to develop course schedules for Hampton U Online.
  • Assists in marketing efforts for Hampton U Online.
  • Recruits distance education faculty for upcoming sessions.
  • Manages the evaluation process of Distance Learning support services and operations.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and online training to faculty through the use of instructional technologies, educational best practices, instructional resources, and multimedia hardware/software to support instruction.
  • Develops and manages the annual distance learning budget.
  • Supervises Hampton U Online staff and manages operation.

Qualifications

  • A Doctoral degree and demonstrated proficiency with a Learning Management System is required.

  • Extensive experience developing and supporting online programs in higher education with demonstrated results creating and growing enrollments.

  • A commitment to excellence in student learning and the ongoing pursuit of innovative and effective educational strategies that continually strengthen student success.

  • A leadership style that is both strategic and collaborative.

  • Organizational bridge-building skills, including the ability to build partnerships within and outside of the university.

  • An ability to recruit team members and work with outsourced partners as needed.

  • An entrepreneurial bent that thrives on both the opportunities and the challenges in higher education today.

  • A commitment to the University’s mission and a collaborative orientation appropriate to the shared work of continually strengthening the University experience and brand.
