Operate, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment necessary for the building's operation. The successful candidate will report to the Supervisor of Piped Services or an assigned representative, and may be required to report to work when major problems with HVAC equipment are encountered during off-shifts and/or weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

The HVAC Mechanic

  • Operates the central control room;
  • Maintains and performs preventive maintenance on controls and related equipment;
  • Adjusts and calibrates equipment when necessary;
  • Responds to complaints regarding HVAC equipment, and adjusts or repairs equipment accordingly;
  • Performs all repairs on pumps, compressors, and centrifugal equipment;
  • Performs tests on water systems that are integrated with the HVAC system;
  • Greets town building inspectors and insurance and loss control inspectors, and provides tours of equipment and facilities.
  • Performs minor electrical and pipe fitting repairs to HVAC systems.


The applicant for this position must possess:

  • A Journeyman or Master Mechanical License
  • A CFC Certification
  • A 410 Refrigerant Certification
  • At least five years experience with residential/commercial A/C systems;
  • Experience with DDC for A/C Systems
