The Department of Engineering invites applications for the position of research associate (contingent on funding) with a start date contingent on approval of the funding agency and funding. Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Tidewater Peninsula in Hampton, Virginia. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Engineering is housed within the School of Engineering and Technology and has 8 full-time faculty members. The department has three concentrations: chemical, electrical and computer engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include: making PM, ozone, and NOx measurements in the field; comparing the data with the output from existing models; making modifications in the models based on the comparisons; preparing reports; and writing and presenting papers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the equipment mentioned above. He/she has to travel in the state of Virginia, especially Northern Virginia, to make measurements in a mobile unit; therefore, capability to drive a van to various locations is a must.
An earned doctorate degree in chemical engineering or environmental engineering, and expertise in the areas of ‘Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling’ and ‘Field Measurements’ are required. Candidates must have expertise in pollution measurement instrumentation such as TEOM (for ozone and NOx measurements) and NAAQS. Experience in the use of MOVES, CAL3QHCR, AERMOD or similar models will be considered a plus.
How to Apply
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The compensation package will be commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, personal contact information, and names of three professional references along with postal/email addresses and telephone numbers electronically to email@example.com.
