Reporting to the Director for the Assessment Center, the Academic Counselor will assist the Director with the design and implementation of the tutorial program and academic counseling component to increase student retention, academic performance and persistence toward career goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Academic Counselor works in collaboration with the faculty, students and staff to support students. He or she also designs, implements and monitors the tutorial/peer led team learning programs; advises and counsels students on academic and curricular issues; delivers workshops and presentations; engages in creative academic programming; and develops and advises student groups. Some evening and weekend work is required.
A Master’s degree in counseling or related area is required. Professional experience working with college students in support services is strongly desired. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment. The successful candidate must be proficient at oral and written communications and have excellent time management skills and organizational skills. The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills with a friendly approachable attitude. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with database applications is required.
Experience in Banner is preferred, but not required.
