Reporting to the Director of the Career Center, the Job Developer identifies full-time and part-time employment opportunities for Hampton University students and alumni; provides career counseling for students and alumni; plans, maintains and communicates a knowledge base of occupational, career, and job information resources and technologies; understands the labor market, employment trends, and researches topics for the Career Center News Radio Show on the WHOV 88.1 HU Radio Station.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with employers by performing outreach to and assist employers with recruiting and enhancing their image on campus

  • Provide basic consultation to students and /or alumni on job-search tools and strategies, including resume writing, developing cover letters and job-campaign correspondence, networking and making connection with employers

  • Be aware of economic, political, and global issues that affect higher education and major employment trends

  • Provide consultation for employers in devising effective, customized strategies for their campus relations and recruiting initiatives

  • Facilitate workshops, and seminars on assigned topics

  • Post jobs on the Online-Recruiting System, Facebook and Twitter

  • Counsel students and alumni on the Sigi3 Interest Inventory System

  • Receive all jobs emailed or mailed to the Career Center; verify that the company is legal and vet through the Better Business Bureau

  • Serve as host for the Career Center News Show on WHOV 88.1 Radio Station

  • Manage clerical functions in the absence of the Recruiter and Secretary

  • Represent the Director at meetings in the absence of the Assistant Director

  • Counsel students and alumni with career planning

  • Occasionally represent the Career Center at campus and community functions

  • Prepare all reports pertaining to the position

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Marketing or related area, plus 2-3 years of effective career services experience; excellent communication skills; excellent computer skills; must demonstrate maturity, have an outstanding work ethic, and possess the ability to communicate with students, faculty, business and industry representatives.
