Description
Hampton University is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to assume operational and managerial responsibilities for the maintenance of campus grounds and other outlying Hampton University owned properties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Exercise a high degree of independent decision making in both management and grounds operations for the Grounds Maintenance Division.
- Plan and implement operations and activities on a daily basis.

Inspect roads, grounds and sidewalks to determine the level of total maintenance needed on a daily basis.

Keep all records (personnel and grounds) up to date.

Prepare and submit an annual budget recommendation for the Grounds Maintenance Division.

Ascertain that all equipment needed to maintain the grounds and roads is in good operational condition.

Interview and orientate new Grounds Maintenance employees.

Perform other related tasks as assigned by Immediate Supervisor.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an accredited school of landscaping, and/or gardening.
Successful applicant must possess a valid Virginia Drivers License.
Qualifications
- Well grounded, functional and conceptual knowledge of grounds maintenance and care on an institutional or industrial level.

Ability to identify and possess a keen knowledge of grasses, trees, flowers, shrubs and plants.

Ability to plan, organize, motivate and direct the work of a medium to large grounds maintenance workforce.

Knowledgeable of pest control.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Must be able to work well with others and possess a positive attitude in the performance of his/her duties.
