The Hampton University Department of Marine and Environmental Science (MES) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of either assistant professor or associate professor with specialization in one of the following areas: environmental, marine, coastal, or estuarine sciences. This faculty position requires external funding, classroom instruction directed at MES undergraduate and graduate student majors, and departmental and institutional service.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically Black university (HBCU) located on the Tidewater Peninsula in Hampton, Virginia. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher learning with accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding, conduct marine science and/or environmental science-related research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of MES, advise Department of MES undergraduate and graduate students, train post-doctoral research fellows, participate in sholarly activities, and provide service to the HU community.
The successful candidate will hold a Doctorate in one of the following specialty areas: Environmental Science, Marine Science, or Oceanography. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in Biogeochemistry, Environmental Toxicology, GIS, Sustainability, Fisheries, or Marine Microbial/Molecular Biology. Qualified candidates must demonstrate that they can contribute to the overall academic caliber of the Department through a proven record of teaching, granstmanship and research productivity. Research programs must include significant participation of undergraduate and graduate students.
