The School of Pharmacy at Hampton University invites applications for the position of Director of Experiential Education. This is a 12 month, full-time, non tenure-track faculty position. The Director is expected to be active in service to the School of Pharmacy, the greater Hampton University community, and the profession as a whole. The successful candidate will also be actively engaged in scholarly activity relating to the profession.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and is responsible for the planning, implementation, and assessment of all experiential education activities in the School. Overall responsibilities include the development and coordination of advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs) and peripheral oversight of introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs). The Director is instrumental in identifying and securing preceptors and practice sites, determining preceptor training needs, and maintaining the academic standards of the experiential education program consistent with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards and Virginia State Board of Pharmacy Internship requirements. Other responsibilities include preceptor training and site development, oversight of student placement and supervision, and assessing educational outcomes of the experiential program. The Director will also assist the Chair of Department of Pharmacy Practice in maintaining practice partnership agreements with clinical sites that assure the delivery of quality learning experiences.
The successful candidate will have earned either a B.S. in pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an accredited U.S. pharmacy program. Also, the candidate must be a registered pharmacist in good standing within the State of Virginia, have experience as a preceptor and have practice experience in various settings (e.g., community, hospital, managed care, etc.). In addition, demonstrated leadership or administrative experience in various pharmacy or related health care settings is preferred. Candidates should be active in professional organizations; possess excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills; and be able to collaborate with faculty and academic leadership in order to maintain a positive and dynamic environment.
