Description

The Hampton University Department of Psychology invites applications for adjunct faculty.  Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Tidewater Peninsula in the City of Hampton--an area which offers an environment for living and learning that is peaceful, yet stimulating and exciting.  The Hampton University campus is centrally located between Virginia Beach and historic Williamsburg, along a beautiful waterfront.  The University is a nationally renowned institution that is privately endowed, co-educational, and nonsectarian. 

The Department of Psychology is comprised of nine world-class faculty members, with a popular sequence in marriage and family studies as well as a newly formed masters of science program in general psychology.  In addition, the department currently enjoys a highly collegial style of governance with ambitious research and grantsmanship agendas as well as a strong teaching base.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Lifespan Development, and/or Theories of Personality. Although hiring at the rank of Assistant Professor is preferable, the Department will consider filling the position at other levels depending on the qualifications and years of teaching experience. 

Requirements

A Doctorate in Psychology is required. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be committed to teaching, the advisement of students, and must demonstrate evidence of research. The Department is interested in candidates who can contribute to the academic advancement of the Psychology department through teaching, research, and service.  Experience with diverse populations is important.
