The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is accepting nominations and applications for the full-time position of Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology beginning July 1, 2015.  Founded in 1868, Hampton University (www.hamptonu.edu) is located on approximately 300 acres of the Virginia Peninsula. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher education and all programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology is a 12-month administrative appointment which reports directly to the Provost. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

--developing and managing the annual School budget (and will be responsible for securing 33 1/3% of the operating budget through external funding).

--overseeing the daily operations (i.e. recruitment, advising students, evaluating student’s transcripts, scheduling classes, ordering textbooks, and identification of qualified faculty);

--effectively provide oversight of faculty, staff personnel, students,  programs, and fiscal resources within the school;

--maintaining and improving the high quality of academic programs within the departments of Architecture, Aviation, and Engineering--including compliance with accreditation standards;

--handling other professional activities that support the budget and/or enhance the reputation of the School and University as a whole. 



The successful applicant must have an earned doctorate in engineering and a distinguished record of research, education, and service. Scholarly activity that is appropriate for an appointment as an associate professor or full professor in the School of Engineering and Technology is required.


The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

--a high level of energy and initiative;

--excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;

--demonstrate a written record of securing external funding; and

--a proven ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
