The Deputy Project Manager assists the Project Manager in meeting the goals established for the Administrative Core of the MMHI and provide administrative support to all components of the MMHI.  Reports directly to the MMHI Project Manager.  Assumes the responsibilities of the MMHI Project Manager when instructed by the MMHI Project Manager, the MMHI Principal Investigator/Project Director, and /or other authorized Hampton University administrative personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize various MMHI activities

  • Help maintain financial information regarding the MMHI budget

  • Preparation of meeting summaries

  • Website management and administration

  • Maintain MMHI’s social media presence

  • Electronic data management

  • Web-based video conference organization and administration

  • Planning of research, training, education and outreach activities

  • Travel to consortium partner sites

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports

  • Other duties as may be assigned by MMHI Project Director and/or Project Manager


  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in biomedical, health, behavioral, or social science field

  • Prior experience in research or training grant project management

  • Prior experience in management of NIH-funded grant(s)

  • Attention to detail and strong analytical, organizational and technical skills

  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and initiative when working with others

  • Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience with website management

  • Experience with variety of web-base videoconferencing platforms

  • Ability to manage relationships among diverse scientific and administrative partners from different types of sectors
