The Department of Psychology at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Psychology, and MS in General Psychology degrees, is seeking to fill a chairperson position at the associate or assistant professor level for a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2017. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be committed to managing the growth and development of the Department and must demonstrate evidence of grantsmanship and research. They should also be committed to teaching, and the advisement of students. Specific responsibilities will include oversight of the faculty and the work of the department such as development of the short and long-range plans for the academic unit, assurance of the quality and coordination of instruction, preparation of annual faculty and staff evaluations in the department, overseeing the recruitment of students, preparation of a budget for the expenditure of departmental funds, acquisition of external funding from grant sources and conducting research projects through personal initiative. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates with strong management and leadership abilities, curriculum development experience, the acquisition of grants funding, research activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students. 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited university, management and administrative abilities, leadership abilities, potential to teach effectively (in both online and traditional settings) at the university level in undergraduate settings, ability to conduct scholarly/funded research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets, and the ability to advise students.
