The Department of Music invites nominations and applications for a nine-month faculty position at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor in Organ/Piano/University Organist, beginning August 2017.  Housed in the School of Liberal Arts and Education, the Department of Music offers four degree programs all of which require applied piano lessons.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a historically black institution (HBCU) and is located on approximately 300 acres of waterfront property in the beautiful city of Hampton, Virginia.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, non-sectarian institution of higher learning with accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.  The Department of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duties assigned by the Department Chair including major and minor graduate/ undergraduate applied lesson courses as qualified to instruct
  • Serve as accompanist for University choirs and organist for formal University events
  • Perform as a soloist and collaborative artist
  • Maintain visibility as a performer, teacher, and recruiter at the state and national levels
  • Research and seek funding opportunities
  • Recruit students for the department
  • Demonstrate success as a teacher and performer
  • Guide and mentor students

Qualifications

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an earned Master’s degree and/or equivalent performance experience at the professional level.  Evidence of successful recruiting and studio teaching at the university level is desirable as well as grant writing experience.  The successful candidate will also have experience working with diverse populations
