The Hampton University Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation invites nominations and applications for a nine month, full-time faculty position in Kinesiology/ Exercise Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2017.


Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers nationally recognized professional preparation programs for majors and a physical activity program for non-majors to fulfill the general education requirement for physical education. The Department offers undergraduate degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in: Physical Education with teacher endorsement in Health and Physical Education at the PreK-12 levels, Recreation and Tourism Management, Sport Management, and Kinesiology. The department’s graduate program includes a Master of Science in Sport Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses in the professional core (Foundations of Kinesiology; Motor Learning; Physiology of Exercise; Sport & Exercise Nutrition; Exercise Testing & Prescription, First Aid – CPR) etc.), and service classes; advise students, supervise interns; assist in the coordination of the Kinesiology major; establish private and public funding sources; Engage in research/ scholarship that enhance partnerships with students and colleagues in the department and school.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology/ Exercise Science.  ABD or Masters with substantial experience will be considered.  Active membership and service in appropriate state and national professional societies (ACSM; AAHPERD; NSCA); experience or potential in grant writing and potential for scholarly productivity required.  College level teaching experience preferred.
