Preservation & Access Manager

Coordinate all activities pertaining to the physical and digital preservation of the Harvey Library collections, including the Peabody collection and the general collection. Participate in service and program activities that advance the strategic goals of the library.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, plan, and implement activities for the preservation department.
  • Develop and implement disaster plans for the library.
  • Develop departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement staff and user training programs in topics, including, but not limited to handling, storage, exhibition, reformatting, physical processing, treatment, environmental control, and integrated pest management.
  • Maintain statistical data and prepare reports relative to preservation activities.
  • Assist with the development of digital initiatives.
  • Prepare physical and digital displays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to advance the strategic goals of the library in connection with the strategic goals of the university.


  • Advanced degree in preservation or conservation.

  • Experience in the field of preservation and conservation.

  • Knowledge of conservation standards, principles, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of book conservation materials and techniques.

  • Knowledge of disaster planning.


  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
