Description

Hampton University is looking for an experienced Network Administrator to maintain, and support Hampton University’s campus area network (CAN) and to help grow the university’s network infrastructure. The qualified candidate will be a member of a network engineering team that is responsible for supporting scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet university objectives and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Duties and Responsibilities

Install and support various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)

• Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations

• Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability

• Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning

• Provide Level-1/2 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues

• Adhere to established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure

• Use security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the university’s security team

Requirements

Associates’ degree in Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience or targeted technical training

• 2+ years of technical operations experience a plus

• CCNA or higher (CCIE and/or CISSP highly valued)

• CompTIA Security+ desired

Qualifications

 Experience with supporting a campus network infrastructure

• Familiarity with Cisco wireless, network switches, routers, and firewalls

• Working knowledge of protocol analyzers (e.g. Wireshark)

• Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)

• Solid grasp of the OSI and TCP/IP models

• Familiarity with network monitoring applications (PRTG, Solarwinds, etc.)

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office application including Microsoft Visio and Project
