The Hampton University Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry invites nominations and applications for an Organic Chemistry position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on experience beginning Fall of 2018. 

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers three baccalaureate degree tracks: the traditional B.S. in Chemistry; a B.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in Forensic Chemistry; and a B.S. in Biochemistry.  All three tracks are certified by the American Chemical Society.  The Department also offers a terminal Master's Degree in Chemistry, and a Master in Teaching Chemistry.

Duties and Responsibilities

A cohesive research agenda will be expected, along with a full understanding of the curriculum.  The successful candidate has the ability to reach the hearts and minds of the students through successful teaching methods. 


A transcript of the terminal degree (doctorate) is required.  The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.  The candidate must also have a distinguished scholarly record demonstrated by documented evidence of accomplishments in teaching, research, and service.  Other desirable qualifications include a history of external funding, and a publication record.  Salary is commensurate with rank and experience.
