Description

The Hampton University Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation invites nominations and applications for a full time nine (9) month faculty position in sport management at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is August 20, 2018.


Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers nationally recognized professional preparation programs for majors and a physical activity program for non-majors to fulfill the general education requirement for physical education. The Department offers undergraduate degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in: Physical Education with teacher endorsement in Health and Physical Education at the PreK-12 levels, Recreation and Tourism Management, Sport Management, and Kinesiology. The department’s graduate program includes a Master of Science in Sport Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordination of the sport administration graduate program – including recruiting, review of applications, collaborates with the graduate college on policies and processes related to the program; Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the professional core (intro to sport management, sport marketing, sport law, sport finance, facility management, sport sociology), and service classes/advise students for both academic and career related issues, supervise interns; conduct and publish quality research, establish private and public funding sources.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Sport Administration/ Sport Management or related field. Active membership in appropriate state and national professional societies; experience or potential in grant writing and potential for scholarly productivity required; demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and service; experience in use of technology and course management systems in course delivery.
