This Programmer Analyst position supports the implementation, maintenance, and upgrades of university relational database management systems (RDBMS) that underpin university-wide administrative systems in collaboration with university personnel while also providing functional and technical Banner support to students, parents, faculty and staff.  The position requires the candidate to develop, write, test, implement and maintain moderate to complex scripts in a highly technical environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, and production usage

  • Develops, writes, tests, implements and maintains moderate to complex Procedural Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) scripts using TOAD for Oracle

  • Acts as a technical member or lead of teams by providing technical assistance, expertise, leadership, and performing assigned tasks

  • Plans, implements, and tests backup and recovery of databases

  • Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances

  • Install new versions of Oracle Database and its related tools

  • Implements and enforces security for all RDBMS Databases

  • Automate data extractions and integration within Banner ERP

  • Provide functional and technical support to various Banner ERP modules

  • Analyze daily and real-time reports for several Banner ERP modules which includes Alumni, Finance, Payroll, Financial Aid, Registrar and Student Accounts

  • Create new and edit existing documentation

  • Develop and provide audit reports

  • Manage projects for both System Administrators and the Banner Team

  • Train staff on various Banner ERP modules

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent training or relevant experience
  • Equivalent technical training and/or work experience may suffice in lieu of academic requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 2013/2016 Products
  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL, MySQL, or MSSQL scripting and databases
  • Familiarity working with Windows and Linux/UNIX platforms
  • Strong public, verbal, and written communication skills


  • Proficient, working knowledge of Oracle Database 11g or 12c
  • Excellent communication and strong analytical skills
  • Experience and familiarity with programming fundamentals
  • Preferred experience with the Ellucian Banner system
  • Proficiency with Ellucian Banner modules Advancement, Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources and Student
  • Preferred experience with some third party application integrations like Automic (formerly known as Appworx/UC4), Follett, BlackBoard, StarRez, MedProctor, iModules, eBills/eTranscripts, NueMD, Chrome River, Evisions, ImageNow, and others
  • Experience writing Procedural Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) scripts
  • Willingness to learn and exploit new technologies
  • Ability to effectively plan, document, and communicate
  • Experience operating in an higher-education environment
  • Preferred System Administration experience
