Description

The successful System Manager will manage our campus technical infrastructure by coordinating, leading, and supervising a technical team that maintains Hampton University’s Computer Center (datacenter).  The System Manager is responsible for the secure and effective operation of all server and client based systems (physical and virtual), related applications, and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues, locally and via remote administration tools.  As a key member of the Computer Center, the System Manager has an essential role in designing and deployment of technological initiatives campus wide.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as lead technical team member

  • Create new and edit existing documentation

  • Develop and provide audit reports

  • Lead and manage information system projects

  • Manage Active Directory, group policies and Microsoft Exchange 2010/2016

  • Perform system backup, disaster recover, and engineering of new solutions

  • Implement and configure new and existing servers, storage, and networking hardware

  • Provision and manage virtual appliances, clients and servers using Hyper-V

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft 2008R2/2012R2/2016 Servers

  • Provide tier II and tier III support for Windows 7, 8.1, and Windows 10 clients

  • Apply operating system updates, patches and configuration changes

  • Train team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent training or relevant experience

  • Equivalent technical training and/or work experience may suffice in lieu of academic requirements

  • Current CompTIA A+, Linux+, Network+, Security+, or Server+ certification desired

  • Current MCITP or MCSA desired

  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux interoperability

  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting qualities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Programming background and experience is a plus

Qualifications

  • Three or more years working with Microsoft infrastructure technologies: Active Directory, MS Exchange 2010/2013/2016, System Center, WSUS, etc.

  • One or more years working in Linux/UNIX environments

  • Experience with virtualization technologies: Hyper-V, VMware vSphere

  • Experience with advanced SharePoint system administration preferred

  • Knowledge of enterprise relational databases (MSSQL, Oracle, etc.) preferred

  • Experience operating in an higher-education environment

  • Familiarity with programming fundamentals

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 2013/2016 Products including Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project
