The Hampton University School of Pharmacy invites nominations and applications for a full-time Research Associateposition in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Purpose: The incumbent will assist the Principal Investigator in an NIH-funded research project. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting and evaluating research in the field of cellular and molecular biology pertaining to lung fibrosis and carcinogenesis. The position duties may require general maintenance of the laboratory and assistance with various experiments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibility is functional in nature, and needs to be performed under limited supervision. Specific tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting and executing cellular and molecular laboratory experiments.

  2. Ability to operate typical molecular biology equipment, specifically Western blot, PCR, Fluorescence microscope, Spectrofluorometer,  Spectrophotometer and other laboratory equipment.

  3. Collecting and analyzing test results.

  4. Ordering laboratory supplies and test agents, and keeping accurate inventory.

  5. Aiding the supervisor in training new lab members and assisting them as needed.


  1. Minimum of a Master’s degree in basic Biomedical Sciences.

  2. Two years of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or related experience and/or training including academic experience.

  3. Minimum of two years of experience with animal work involving rodents.

  4. Must be able to follow instructions and procedures pertaining to the task at hand.

  5. Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical procedures and journals.

  6. Must be familiar with Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Internet research skills. 

  7. Strong organizational skills required.

  8. Attention to detail and accuracy a must.

  9. Excellent oral and written skills required.
